Benefits of Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)

GulfCoast1 (1)Refractive Lens Exchange, commonly referred to as RLE, offers many individuals who are not candidates for LASIK and other laser vision correction treatments an alternative to improve vision affected by nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, or presbyopia. Refractive Lens Exchange essentially involves removing the eye’s natural lens and replacing it with an advanced intraocular lens implant (IOL). Our experienced ophthalmologist, Dr. Michael Manning, can perform Refractive Lens Exchange procedures on an outpatient basis.

Benefits of RLE include:

  • Reduced dependence on corrective eyewear
  • Can often be an option for patients affected by more severe refractive errors
  • An alternative to LASIK and PRK
  • Eliminates the potential for developing cataracts in the future

In addition, RLE is typically a quick treatment that does not require extensive recovery time. Once you come in for your initial consultation and eye evaluation, Dr. Manning will talk with you about your options and help you determine whether Refractive Lens Exchange is the ideal procedure for your needs.
