What to Expect After Upper Eyelid Surgery

1 (1)

Eyelid surgery, commonly referred to as an eyelid lift and medically known as blepharoplasty, is one of the most popular cosmetic enhancement procedures available. Treatments such as upper eyelid surgery can dramatically reduce signs of age in the upper eye areas and even improve vision for patients affected by excess skin hanging over the eyes. While the recovery process from upper eyelid surgery will vary depending on each patient’s unique needs, there are a few general things that most individuals can expect as they heal.

Most patients are able to resume working and other normal daily activities within one week to 10 days following upper eyelid surgery. There will likely be some degree of swelling, bruising, and discoloration in the treatment areas; however, these effects should gradually dissipate with time. Since the incisions for upper eyelid surgery are typically made in the natural creases and lines along the eyelids, residual scarring should be virtually unnoticeable once the scars fade. Our experienced team here at Gulfcoast Eye Care will keep an eye on your progress during recovery and schedule follow-up appointments to ensure that you are healing properly.
