Uveitis is a group of conditions that may include iritis and pars planitis characterized by inflammation within certain parts of the eye. The most common form is referred to as iritis. Symptoms of iritis may included light sensitivity, blurred vision, redness of the eye, and eye pain. If you have any of these symptoms, then it is important that you get your eyes examined as iritis or uveitis may be associated with a number of different causes including viral, bacterial, fungal, or parasitic infections and with a number of different systemic diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, gastrointestinal diseases, lupus and others. This is a serious condition as it can lead to problems including glaucoma, cataract, scarring within the eye, retinal detachment, and blindness.
